Must-Do Winter Activities

Snow covered trees, festive lights illuminating houses, and snowmen mark the start of a new season. Although December 21st marked the first day of winter, it isn’t too late to partake in winter activities. Sit down, make some hot chocolate, and prepare to have fun this winter.

When snow starts falling, it is essential to check the weather and look for three things: the estimated amount of snow, the temperature, and the time the snow will stop. This will let you know if there is a chance of a snow day, as well as if there will be good sledding conditions. If it is around thirty-two degrees, the temperature is perfect for sledding; it’s not so hot that the snow will be melting, but also not too cold that you’ll be freezing. If the snow is predicted to be at least 2 inches, the snow will be good to sled on. It is important that the snow has settled for a good amount of time before going sledding;if the snow isn’t compacted, your sled will sink right through instead of sliding on the snow. When all of these conditions are met, it is a good time to go sledding; however, going out in the snow isn’t for everyone.

If you prefer to stay warm during the winter, wrapping up by the fire and watching a movie is the perfect way to spend free time during winter break. Netflix, Disney Plus, Hulu, and Amazon Prime all have a great variety of winter movies to choose from. From holiday rom-coms to movies with scary holiday demons, streaming platforms accommodate to everyones’ movie preferences. If you don’t find movies entertaining, Woodland’s media center has so many different books that can entertain you all throughout the winter season.

This winter, enjoy the cold weather and participate in some fun winter activities. Grab your sled or your book and prepare to have fun.
