Athlete Spotlight: Michael Belcher

Shocking his peers and teachers, Michael Belcher, Woodland baseball player, has achieved a great accomplishment of committing to Bryant University as a sophomore. Belcher began playing baseball since he was four years old, which is when his devotion towards the game sprouted. Belcher’s family plays a big role behind his devotion to the sport.

“When I was younger, I would watch my brother play baseball,” said Belcher. “My grandfather and dad were also big baseball fans, which made me pursue and fall in love with the game.”

Although Belcher is just a sophomore, knowing that he is committed to a school brings him relief for his future.

“I am able to relax knowing that I have my next chapter in baseball and my academic career set,” said Belcher.

Since Belcher always planned on playing baseball in the future, he was able to keep his mind set on one goal. His love and devotion to the sport allowed him to start focusing on his plans for the future at a young age. When Bryant University’s head baseball coach reached out to Belcher, he knew this was the place for him to continue his baseball career.

“Since November I had my heart set on Bryant,” said Belcher. “It has both a great baseball and academic program, which is why it’s a great fit for me.”

Over the summer, Belcher attended a baseball camp where the coaches scouted him. From there, he took a tour of the campus and continued to work with the coaches. As of December 16th, Belcher made his decision to commit to Bryant. He will continue to play as a Hawk for the next two years of his high school career, then he will become a bulldog. He hopes to win a state championship before his time is done at Woodland.

“My goal is just to have fun and work hard for the next two years,” said Belcher.

Playing baseball is something that Belcher always loved, and now as a committed athlete, he is able to pursue his dreams. From Bryant University, he will see where his future leads him.
