Student’s Favorite Traditions and Memorable Moments of the Holidays

Well it’s that time of the year again, the holiday season. The snow falls, fire burns, and joyful music is played all around. There are many distinctive features of the holiday season, and special feelings that we associate with it; however, these features have different meanings and values to different people, and traditions and memorable moments vary from person to person.

At Woodland Regional High School, holiday spirit is everywhere this time of the year. The faculty and staff help to spread the joy through decorations and holiday creativity, while the students embody the delight the holidays bring. The students at Woodland Regional High School all have different family and friends, so it would make sense that they each have different memories and traditions; however, there is one similar theme, the love for the holidays stems from spending time with those you love.

Some students feel that it is the special traditions that matter most to them. For sophomore, Connor Cull, the simplest traditions are his favorite.

“My favorite holiday tradition is waking up really early to open up presents. I also love decorating the tree and making gingerbread houses every year.”

Senior class president Eric Meade shares a similar viewpoint as Cull. “Two of my favorite Christmas traditions are listening to Christmas music and making gingerbread houses,” Meade said.

Along with yearly traditions, memories are also special delights that come with the holiday season each year. There is no doubt that memories are created during this time of the year, and there are many that will always have a special place in one’s heart.

Junior Liana Demirs has two very special moments from her childhood that remind her every year of the true joy that comes from the holiday season.

“I have two special holiday memories from my childhood. The first is when I was only 6 and it was my sister’s 2nd Christmas. We were all dressed up dancing to Christmas songs waiting for Santa to come. My other favorite holiday memory would have to be going to Lake Compounce with my family, and my sister and I drinking hot chocolate and dancing all around the theme park. I felt really free and happy in both of those moments even though they were different, and they were both very meaningful.”

Sophomore Abby Bunk also has a special holiday season memory from when she was younger.

“My favorite holiday memory has to be making perogies with my grandparents. I always had such a fun time doing this.”

Holiday traditions and memories are special for many different reasons, each holding valuable places in their hearts. Traditions and memories are factors that truly make the holiday season memorable. The best thing about it is the joyous feeling that comes from various places, for different people. Therefore, this holiday season carry out your traditions and reflect on your memories, but also don’t be afraid to make new ones.
