Volleyball Senior Night 2021

The eight seniors of Woodland’s volleyball team are set to having a great final season; however, a lot of emotions come with the end of this era. While they are excited, they also are unhappy that this will be their last year playing for the team. Whether they have played for all four years or less, they are all exhilarated to finish their senior year strong.

Kylie Bulinski, captain, has been playing volleyball for all four years. Bulinski is the varsity setter on the team andis excited to be playing volleyball at Woodland for her final year. As a captain, she enjoys inspiring and helping the younger players. Being named captain is an important role for Bulinski, which comes with many responsibilities.

“Being a captain is a good role for me to play,” said Bulinski. “The underclassmen look up to the other captains and I, which is really important for me and gives me leadership skills for me to take on in the future.”

Rory Nolan, captain, has been playing at Woodland since her freshman year. She plays as the varsity libero on the team. Starting just in middle school, Nolan played for CT Juniors and took part in Jessica DeGennaro’s volleyball clinic. Nolan’s goal for her senior season is to make it to the NVLs and win as many matches as the team is capable of. As one of the captains Nolan enjoys being a leader, but she has many responsibilities that come with this title.

“If equipment is left behind or a player doesn’t have a mask on, that falls back on us,” said Nolan. “We also have to remember to warm-up before practice and pick out the girls’ outfits to wear on game day, but other than that, being a captain is great and I’m grateful to play this role.”

Cassidy Doiron, captain, began playing volleyball her freshman year and continued up to her final year. She plays as varsity weak side hitter. Due to her hard-working and leadership skills, Dorion was made one of the captains of the team. For her final season she hopes to come out with a bang, making it to the NVLs. Doiron hopes to make everyone feel included on the team.

“I am just trying to make sure that everyone feels comfortable on the team and that everyone does what they are supposed to be doing,” said Doiron.

Alexandra Lisowski, fourth year middle blocker, began playing volleyball the summer before her freshman year, playing for CT juniors. Lisowski hopes to make it to the NVLs and leave a mark for her last year playing. Going into college, Lisowski plans to continue playing club volleyball and if the school she chooses to go to has a division three team, she may decide to join it. As this is Lisowski’s last year, she leaves behind some advice to those looking into trying out for the team.

“Just try out for the team. Yeah, sometimes things will become intense, but overall it’s a really fun experience and everyone is really welcoming,” said Lisowski.

Chelsea Donovan, varsity setter, has been playing for the Woodland team since her freshman year. Before that, she did a handful of volleyball clinics. Donovan’s overall goal for her senior season is to win as many games as possible and play as best she can. After high school, Donovan plans to continue playing for a recreational team. Donovan leaves behind advice for those interested in trying out for the volleyball team and the younger players.

“Just try your best and never give up. You’re going to get better and better every day. Just keep trying, it will pay off in the end,” said Donovan.

Juliana Rubino, varsity defensive specialist, has been playing for the Woodland volleyball team for the past three years. Outside of Woodland, Rubino has played for CT juniors and travel teams. Rubino does not plan to play volleyball in college, but will continue on with her travel team. Rubino hopes to inspire the younger players and those who want to try out for the team.

“I would definitely try out because it’s a great experience and we’re all like family,” said Rubino.

Amber Rosato, varsity outside hitter, has been playing for the team for the past four years. Previously Rosato had played volleyball for two years before coming to Woodland. Rosato plans on playing for a club team with whatever school she plans on going to. Rosato encourages those who want to try out for the team to go for it.

“If you want to be a part of the team, you should join it,” said Rosato. “It’s a great experience and we are all like family.”

Rebecca Swift, JV and Varsity outside, has been a part of the team for two years. Swift played for Woodland during her freshman year and for the Huskie travel team during her sophomore and junior year. Once Swift graduates high school, she plans to continue playing club volleyball. Her goal for her senior year is to continue playing well and make it to the NVLs.

“Try your best when playing volleyball,” Swift said “Playing for the team is a great experience.”
