Woodland’s Favorite Aspects of Autumn

With sweater weather approaching, minds are filled with the familiar memories of autumn leaves and apple picking that happens each year. The weather chills, the nights grow longer, and the football season starts again. Students are eager for apple spice, fall festivals, and the cozy attire that comes with the fall season. In New England there are a vast amount of things to enjoy during autumn.

One aspect of fall that’s forever people’s favorite is the infamous pumpkin spice flavored foods and drinks. When it comes to pumpkin spice, there is a vast amount to choose from, whether it’s coffee, donuts, muffins, or even Oreos, the options are endless. Many businesses have a special menu that they offer during the fall season. This year, Dunkin’ had a new Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and a returning fan favorite, Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte. If you’re more of a Starbucks lover, they had a huge variety of fall favorites on their menu, including Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Pumpkin Spice Blended Frappuccino, and even Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins.

In addition to pumpkin flavored menus comes apple spice flavored menus. Apple spice is also a reliable option, no matter if it isn’t as endless and favorable as pumpkin spice. Both Dunkin’ and Starbucks had a decent selection of apple spice flavored foods. At Dunkin’ this year, they were offering a new Apple Cranberry Dunkin’ Refresher and, a favorite of many, apple cider donuts. Starbucks was selling Apple Crisp Frappuccinos and both warm and iced, Apple Crisp Macchiatos.

While Dunkin’ may offer something similar, nothing beats a fresh out of the oven apple spiced donut at Lyman Orchards. They don’t just have a vast variety of products in their store, they also offer a tradition cherished among several people: apple picking. Whether you’ve gone with family, a significant other, or even by yourself, apple picking is a tradition many can relate to. Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Connecticut isn’t the only place that you can go to pick apples, Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard in Shelton, CT and Drazen Orchards in Cheshire, CT also carry this tradition.

Fall festivals are a great weekend activity to spend with friends and family, not to mention the fall type foods that many people enjoy. The 29th Annual Fall Festival in Brookfield, CT is coming up on the 6th of November. Also on the 6th, the Fall Extravaganza will be taking place in Waterbury, CT. In addition to the food and entertainment, fall festivals like the Fall Extravaganza, are a great opportunity to promote and support small businesses.

This year, just like any, there is an abundance of activities and aspects of the fall season to look forward to. It’s time to start doing your favorite fall traditions before December 1st because before you know it, in just under 2 months the fall season will be over.
