Jake Arisian Swimming at All American Championship

Jake Arisian has been swimming since fifth grade. He is always striving to enhance his skills and have fun. Recently, Arisian got the opportunity to swim at the All American Championship in Florida in which he was able to show off his skills and swim with new people. Because of the three day meet, Arisian was able to swim 9 events and compete in all different types of swim strokes. This Championship gave him a good challenge, but he feels confident in the way he swam.

“I’m happy with all of it, I thought I did good. I mean, there’s some things I could have worked on. You’re always going to look back and see the ways you could have improved and look back at it for motivation next time,” Jake Arisian commented.

This year has made it more challenging than usual, due to COVID-19 regulations that make it difficult to swim, and online meets. COVID-19 regulations include virtual meets, masks when not in the pool, less people in the pool, and social distancing at all times. Nonetheless, Arisian has been able to overcome these obstacles for him and his team. Arisian enjoys the team aspect, and describes what it’s like swimming on a team.

“The team aspect is definitely my favorite. The relay is always a lot of fun,” Arisian said. One of his favorite parts of the All American Championship was being with his team as well.

During the All American Championship, he describes a learning curve but how he was able to overcome it, “It was a great time, there was a learning curve since it was an outdoor pool but I had a lot of fun.” Arisian is confident, and says his motivation is what got him to where he is today. He uses what he needs to work on as motivation for next time, “Motivation is always wanting to get better. I have great teammates and coaches that help me with my skills.” Without motivation, it is harder to do hard work, which is necessary to get to the next level of anything.

Arisian has been putting the work in since he started swimming.

“I think the main thing is I don’t really take days off. I’ve taken five days off in the last three seasons combined. I’m much more of a competitor than I used to be.”

Because of this, Arisian has been able to build himself up, and was able to qualify  and compete in the All American Championship.
