Mu Alpha Theta Making Math Fun

Woodland’s Math Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, is known for tutoring others in math and planning events like Pi Day. In previous years, Mu Alpha Theta had been meeting once a month in the Media Center, but now meets virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In attempting to restore some normality to the group, Gentiana Ukaj encourages new games and activities for the Pi day celebration.

“We’re going to try and come up with some ways to still celebrate and at the same time, be safe.”

Other than Pi Day, Mu Alpha Theta has been working on adjusting the induction ceremony for this upcoming spring. At the beginning of this year, Mu Alpha Theta put together a Google Meet induction ceremony that was supposed to be held in the spring of 2020.

They have also expressed their thoughts of holding a fundraiser to help the community. While the students cannot tutor others, they were wondering how they would help the community. After seeing the Student Government do the canned food drive, they knew they would want to do something similar.

The Math Honors Society is hopeful to come up with new ideas and hold new COVID-friendly events.
