2019-2020 Yearbook Update

From wildfires in Australia to a global pandemic, 2020 can be classified as a hectic and unpredictable year. Plans have been cancelled and non-essential businesses have been shut down, but one thing Woodland students didn’t think would change was the distribution of the 2019-2020 school yearbook. Three months after the end of the 2019-2020 school year, students and parents demand answers on the whereabouts of the yearbooks.

While many were quick to blame Woodland’s Yearbook committee, which did suffer from completing the yearbook on time because of quarantine, the problem was compounded with the manufacturers of the yearbook, LifeTouch, an American photography company. Due to COVID-19, LifeTouch has been behind on orders and shipments, the 2019-2020 yearbooks weren’t expected to be delivered for another couple months after the 2019-2020 school year ended.

Due to the expected delay, the Yearbook committee decided to update the yearbook and add new pictures.

“If [the yearbook] is going to be late already, we might as well make it better,” stated James Amato, Hawk Headlines Journalism Director.

Because of the cancellation of spring sports and clubs, the yearbook had thirty to forty blank pages. The Yearbook committee decided to fill these pages with pictures from graduation and other hallmarks of the summer.

“We are going to add the senior diploma distribution photos and additional material that we wouldn’t have been able to add if we pushed them out sooner,” said Abby Messina, member of the Yearbook committee.

Because of the constant change of COVID-19 guidelines, there may not be a gathering for the graduated seniors to collect and sign their yearbooks. Woodland’s Yearbook Committee and LifeTouch are planning on mailing the 2019-2020 yearbooks to the homes of the people who purchased a yearbook in an attempt to reduce contact and make sure everyone receives their yearbook.

[The yearbooks] will be out soon,” said Messina. “They will be worth the wait.”
