Time and time again, the Woodland Girls Soccer Team has been forced to prove their strength to neighboring towns and schools. Now, their season has expired after a loss in the second round of the state tournament. 

After a tough season in the Naugatuck Valley League, the Hawks finished with a record of 10-3-3. From games starting back in September, the girls developed into a  communicative team that presented promise for the NVL Tournament. Unfortunately, Woodland fell to Oxford in the first round of the tournament. As tough as the loss was, they kept their heads up for the state tournament the following week. 

Overall, the season as a whole has been a building year for many of the NVL teams, for tons of top players in the league graduated from the previous year. The class of 2019 sent captains and starters Haley Wolfanger and Juliana Villano off to college, along with six other senior starters. This season, Woodland relied on many new and young faces to put in their work at the varsity level. Freshmen Paige Letourneau and Kaitlyn Leonard were both key players to the Woodland lineup this season. 

On Tuesday, November 12th, the Woodland girls came out of the first round of states with a powerful win (3-1) over Immaculate, a team from the SWC league. The unexpected, yet victorious win for Woodland recorded the first time in history that the girls have topped Immaculate. Advancing to the second round, and beating their run from last year when they lost in the first round of states. The girls were then defeated by Weston the following Thursday (1-3), ending their run at a Class M title. 

Next year, current junior captain Aries Bell will lead the players and will strive to break records and hang banners and capitalize on the success foundation of the 2019 team.
