Pumpkin Spice Latte–a Fall Necessity?

Everyone feels the cool September air nip at their cheeks as they leave the warmth of the cafe after buying a fall drink. The time has come to take out the fall hoodies and prepare for the seasons change. The cool air and orange leaves have started to creep over the remnants of summer. This can only mean one thing- it’s PSL season. This fall-themed drink made of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, with milk, pumpkin spice and espresso is an annual fall favorite.

The drink has been around since August of 2003, but the hype started in 2015 when Starbucks started advertising them as the next big thing.

“The pumpkin spice craze isn’t slowing down, ”statistics from CNN . “Sales for pumpkin-flavored items increased nearly 5% in 2018 to $511.5 million.” Cnbc.com says that Starbucks sells 424 million Pumpkin spice lattes worldwide.

Dunkin drinker, Dalal Hussein, is excited to try out the Pumpkin spice latte.

“Anything pumpkin spice i’m obsessed with. I want to see what the hype about them is,” Said Hussein.

In the Woodland community, people have mixed reviews on the festive drink. Junior, Emma Flaherty, avid PSL drinker, has bought her fair share of this festive drink.

“Pumpkin Spice is the quintessential fall flavor. I live for pumpkin spice. I have flavors for every season,” said Flaherty. “Caramel is my in between flavor. Summer I use coconut flavors, but fall is all about pumpkin spice.”

Not everyone is a huge fan of Pumpkin Spice Lattes, according to a poll on HawkHeadlines Instagram, 35% of students voted they did not like or had not tried a pumpkin spice latte.
