Math Team Faces Off in Western Connecticut League Competition

Woodland’s Math Team attended their third meet of the Western Connecticut Math League on February 6th, where they took fourth place among five schools. Facing off against New Milford, Brookfield, Pomperaug, and Lewis Mills, they earned a total of 420 points out of 515.

The team has just recently had a bolstering of sophomores joining the crew, bringing their total to eleven members. Since the team restarted their season this year, they have gained the leadership of their captains, Anaga Dinesh and David Michaud, a junior and sophomore respectively, as well as Mrs. Fryc-Gabrys as their coach. With their leadership, they have participated in a total of three meets this year, and have a few more before the end of the year.

One of the most valuable members during their math meets is their junior captain, Anaga Dinesh, who scored about 94 points in the last competition.

“Without her [Anaga], we definitely wouldn’t have earned as many points as we did in our last meet,” says David Michaud, the other captain leading the team. Both captains plan on leading the team until they graduate from Woodland.

As the team prepares for their next meet on April 3rd, they are still looking for new members. If students of any grade are thinking about joining, you can speak to either of the captains, or Mrs. Fryc-Gabrys for information about the team.
