Solving Mysteries with the Forensic Club

If you are interested in solving mysteries, piecing together parts of a puzzle, or if you simply enjoy science, the Forensic Club may be the club for you.

The club is led by Thomas Feige and they meet every two weeks. During these meetings, the Forensic Club practices their skills of crime scene analysis and in understanding how to trace evidence back to the suspects. The Forensic Club works to prepare its members to compete in a Forensic Competition held in Hartford.

The competition in Hartford will consist of and entering and processing a crime scene. The students will gather evidence by use of photographs, sketches, and notes. Then, the students will have the opportunity to lift fingerprints and compare them to the prints of possible suspects. The participants will also interview a mock witness and attempt to gather as much information as possible. Each group will be graded on their thoroughness of each category. At the end of the activity, the participants will write a short essay, briefly explaining what they did and why they did it.

John Searles is a member of the Forensic Club and has a great experience being a part of the club so far.

“It’s a fun club, almost like a family,” said Searles. “It’s a great way to get experience if you want to get into the Forensic work field.”

Students from Woodland that are interested in this field trip should contact Feige or Cassie Dupre as soon as possible. This trip usually takes place in May. In order to  optimally perform at the competition, however, it is advised that one joins as soon as possible. The Forensic Club hopes to see you at their next meeting.
