Woodland’s Newest Club: Preserving our History

Do you enjoy History class? Do you have a passion for filmmaking? Are you interested in hearing the stories of American heroes? If so, the Preserving our History Club is a great program in which students can research, discuss, and share historical findings. Students involved in this organization are given the opportunity to go to the Oakville VFW and meet with veterans. Everyone is welcome to join the club and attend the future activities.

The Preserving our History Club  traveled to the Oakville VFW and students met with veterans and heard their stories. Multiple schools will be made videos and competed against each other. During this time, students recorded a video of a specific Veteran telling his story. They then interviewed the Veteran and asked any questions they had.

According to Veronica Moscariello, a participant in the most recent PoH field trip, “The field trip was a great way to get a different view of what the veterans went through.”

Afterwards, the students edited the video, made a four minute interview, and created a sixty second trailer. The objective of this assignment is to learn the stories from these Veterans and pass it on to everyone else, thus “preserving our history”. Those who submit a video will be welcomed to an awards night and ceremony in order to honor the best films created. Keep in mind, the videography is completely optional and participants can choose to simply be a fly on the wall. This is a repeating field trip, so you have multiple opportunities to take part in this exciting event.

If you are feeling patriotic, this is an excellent way to honor those who have risked their lives for our freedom. Anyone that is interested in joining the Preserving our History Club or attending the field trip to the Oakville VFW, seek out Mr. Amato or Mr. Tomlin, advisors of the Preserving our History Club.
