Chris Herren, former NBA player, was a surprising guest speaker at Woodland Regional High School recently. While the topic of his presentation may have been drugs, Herren did not come in and tell his own stories of drug abuse and addiction like many presenters. Instead, Herren asked each student to self-reflect. For those were drinking and doing drugs, he asked many times, “What about you is not good enough that your have to drink or do drugs with your friends?” The message, which went past drugs to self worth in general and combined with stories of students Herren met at other schools, was extremely moving.
