Woodland WorldWide Retreating to the Berkshires

On Sunday, June 7th and Monday, June 8th, Woodland WorldWide will be going on a trip to the Berkshires. This trip is an outdoor adventure leadership development program that is designed to help students develop leadership skills.

“We had to unfortunately cancel the Guatemala trip, so this is, in part, our way of getting some quality time in with our members outside our usual comfort zones which is a philosophy Ms. Olivere and I both believe in very strongly,” said Meghan Geary, advisor for Woodland WorldWide.

On the trip, the students will develop relationships with one another, participate in trust exercises, and understand each other. They will also develop a better understanding of themselves. The students will learn how to overcome their fears, and promote self-confidence. They will also establish communication skills, learn when to speak, when to listen, and how to speak up. The members will develop leadership skills, but also skills that a follower should have. They will see when to step up or when to step down and also how to collaborate with one another.

“Being a leader is not about being the loudest or the one with all the ideas, but how to use the combined power of all the members of the team,” said Geary.

The members of Woodland World Wide have selected to try a few different activities while on the trip to help develop these skills. Some of these activities include, team-building games, high and low ropes courses, zip-lines, a campfire and some bonding time.

“This is also our farewell to our seniors, a very special group of young women whom we are going to miss so very much. They’ve been dedicated, engaged, active, present and passionate for 3-4 years, depending on when they joined the group, and we love them with all our hearts,” shared Geary.
