Track Team Takes Nationals

To qualify for nationals a track team must meet two standards: emerging elite and elite.

Members of the Woodland boys and girls outdoor track team recently qualified for nationals in North Carolina. They will be competing in the sprint medley relay (SMR) 100, 200, and 400.

Success isn’t anything new to the Woodland track team. Last year, Mike Lang took home a victory in the long jump event. This year, more talent has emerged and the coaches are hopeful for more victories.

Participating in the SMR for the girls will be seniors Jazmyn Menzies and Marisa Macek, as well as juniors Haleigh Resnick and Clara Drozdowski. The boys competing will be seniors Tom Bethin, juniors Sean McAllen, and freshmen Ben Nuss and Tom Smith.

Smith explains that he is thrilled to have qualified for nationals and is going to work hard to practice.

Smith says, “I feel like Woodland Regional High School is going to do great because we’re very disciplined and in great shape.”

Both boys and girls have started off the spring season strong with a record of 5-0, winning all meets they participated in. The girls’ team was led by captains Jazmyn Menzies, Abbey Rosato, and Marisa Macek while the boys’ captains are Zach Noreika, Jeff Moffat, and Tom Bethin. The two teams collected a victory at the Vacation Invitational and at the Bellringer Invitational, girls took home first place  while boys took home second.

The Woodland boys’ and girls’ track teams are hopeful to keep up their exceptional record throughout the rest of the season.
