Interact Club Helps Students Complete Graduation Requirement

Completing forty hours of community service may seem like a lot of work. But it’s not if you join Woodland’s Interact Club.

From running a food drive to collecting clothes for the homeless, Woodland’s Interact Club is all about helping the community. “The mission of the Interact Club is to provide community service hours for graduation, serve the greater community, and participate in international service projects.”, says Mrs. Janine Murdy, advisor of the Interact Club.

The Interact Club has held many services activities such as a food and clothing drive. They assisted with The Valley Has a Heart food drive. On April 19th at Seymour Stop and Shop, members of the Interact Club handed out flyers with a with a wish list of food to shoppers going into the store. On the way out, if the shoppers bought anything off the list, they put it in a truck that went down to the Spooner House in Shelton. The Spooner House is operated by the Area Congregations Together Inc. They provide food, shelter, and support serves for people in need.

Now the Interact Club is planning to partake in a walk for there Hungry and Homeless Foundation on May 16th at 8:30 A.M. on the Derby Greenway. Doing this, they hope to raise awareness for the hungry and homeless.

Also coming up on May 29th. members of the Interact Club are going to be working with Chef Hines and students in culinary to cook and bring a meal to the Spooner House for the homeless.

The Interact Club is looking for members. Anyone that interested in helping the community and school while completing a graduation requirement should talk to Mrs. Murdy for more information.
