Woodland Runners Take Indoor Track Nationals

On Friday March 13, four Woodland High School girls will be competing in the New Balance National Indoor event in New York, New York. These four girls were the only Woodland students to make it to state opens and the national meet. Juniors Clara Drozdowski, Lisa Thrasher, Haleigh Resnick, and Senior, Jazmyn Menzies, will all be running the SMR event: sprint, medley, relay. The SMR is a three-part race that consists of  two 200-meter events, a 400-meter run, and an 800-meter run. The first events will be run by Menzies and Resnick, then handing it off to Thrasher, running the 400. Finally Drozdowski will finish the race off with the 800-meter.
Thrasher, Drozdowski and Menzies have all been running competitively long before high school track; all three ran throughout middle school. Resnick started running  her freshman year.
The four girls ran three years as a 4×4 relay, but this upcoming event will be the first time for them running the SMR event together.
Thrasher, Drozdowski, Resnick, and Menzies all go to practice six days a week to prepare and train themselves farther than they already have. Their coach pushes them to exceed limits, and break more records. “The best part is just the team and our coaches and how close we get and how easy it is to just support each other” Said Menzies. The girls hope that Woodland will come out to support them in this event.
“There is no better feeling than working hard all season and winning a championship!”-says Resnick. Everyone is rooting for the girls on the 13th!
