Woodland Football Sweeps Seymour: Thanksgiving Game

One last night. One last game. Thirteen seniors stood, huddled under the lights, with one last chance to leave everything on the field as a Hawk.

It’s no secret the Woodland and Seymour football teams have been long time rivals ,and knowing it was the team’s last time playing with their seniors made the whole atmosphere that more intense. With homecoming rescheduled to later that evening and the pressure of leaving their legacy on Woodland heavy on the minds, the boys stood under the same lights that had watched over them for the last four years, ready to take the win.

“Knowing it was our last game as seniors was heartbreaking. There’s no better feeling than going out on Friday nights under the stars with your brothers by your side,” says Mike Kenney, senior and quarter-back on the team.

Through all the stress and pressure, the boys focused on the task at hand and dominated Seymour. The sky and atmosphere illuminated the night as the team brought home the win, 41-14.

“We’ve been working so hard all season, it finally paid off. We had so much motivation because we knew it was our last game and we wanted to go out as winners more than anything, ” comments Pat Hale, senior and corner back.

Win or loose, the boys are more than just a team. Whether it’s watching a pre-game movies or mounting a new picture in the weight-room, the bond the team shares goes far more than just athletes that compete together. Together, the team has created memories and grown as athletes and people. They have made bonds and friendships that will continue long after they leave the field.

“The Woodland football team isn’t just a team. We are a family,” explains Kenney. “The bond will never be broken between any of us. I am proud to be a Hawk.”
