Bringing Back the Book Fair Bash

The Class of 2017 is upholding their annual book fair fundraiser at Barnes & Noble on Friday, November 28. Sophomore students will be at the Barnes & Noble at 235 Union Street Waterbury, CT, from 12 pm to 4 pm.

Due to great experiences with this fundraiser in the past, Alyssa Varesio, Sophomore Class president, thinks highly of the book fair bash.

“We had a lot of fun last year doing the fundraiser,” Alyssa said, “so we are doing it again.”

The goal, according to Ilyce Cronk, one of the 2017 class advisors, is to help pay for upcoming class events.

“We plan on using the money to help set off costs for future events coming up for their class,” Cronk said.

The class will be hosting events such as gift wrapping, a wrap-a-thon, a café cheesecake selling, and even children’s book reading by Harry the Hawk, Woodland’s school mascot.

All money raised from the book fair gift wrapping, plus 10% of every purchase made will benefit the Class of 2017. Also, if the receipt of any items purchased the day of the book fair are brought into school after the Barnes & Noble fundraiser, an additional 10% will be added to the class’ earnings.

The class anticipates a wide range of people attending their annual book fair and they are encouraging people to participate in other fundraising events too. The sophomores are planning, as well as carrying out, events such as apparel sales and a candy bar fundraiser.

Cronk looks forward to completing more events to help the class with occasions such as upcoming prom in 2017.

“We are hoping to do get more fundraising events soon,” said Cronk, “including this one again next year.”
