Cross-Country Girls Sweep NVLS

The weather was rainy and dreary on the day of the NVL Cross Country Championships. But the drab weather had no effect on the Woodland runners, as the girl’s team took home the NVL Title and the boys finished second ,just behind Naugatuck.

But what caught the attention of the entire league, was the trio of Kelsey Mitchell, Clara Drozdowski and Stephanie Kiley who finished first, second and third in the championship race. Coach Lownds says that the three girls, “bring dedication and focus to practice and meets. They work very hard in practice, as do other members of the team.” The entire team’s dedication to the psychically grueling sport is what earned them the title of undefeated NVL Cross Country Champions for the second year in a row, an amazing accomplishment. Impressive accomplishments are not new to the Woodland running community, who won the NVL title in Indoor and Outdoor Track twice, making their most recent victory their sixth consecutive NVL title.

Standouts who will be returning next year include Bianca Poehailos, Kailyn Accetura, Meredith Dyckman, and Emilie Norieka. Captain Stephanie Kiley hopes the win will inspire them to carry on the victory streak, “It helps the underclassmen realize that we have accomplished winning before and they can continue.”

If the team strives to maintain their title and work ethic, as well as beat their previous times, no title seems impossible.
