This year Student Council had a great Executive Board with three seniors who took part in the organization. Ayah Galal who served as Student Body President her junior and senior year said, “ My favorite part of being in Student Council was being able to lead the Senate in organizing events for the school and our community. From service to social events, Student Council successfully ran a plethora of projects.”

“Over the course of four years I have learned a great deal of parliamentary procedure. I learned different techniques in running successful events and how to improvise if things do not go as planned.” said Galal. “I will miss running and organizing service events the most. I always enjoy being able to reach out to those who need help. I will also miss leading the school in the pledge of allegiance and doing the morning announcements.”

Galal believes that next year Mary Vlamis will be exceptional Student Body President. “Mary is a very focused and dedicated member. I am confident that she will do a great job next year and successfully fulfill our motto ‘here to serve’,” said Galal.

Student Body Vice President, Lauck, takes Student council very seriously. “It has been a huge part of my life for the past two years,” said Lauck. “I love all the formalities and strategizing we do. I love how I’ve seen the organization develop since my freshman year and I’m glad to say that I have had a part in helping its development.”

This year student council really excelled in achieving great things. “I think winning the National Gold Council of Excellence recognition this year was definitely the pinnacle of my time in Student Council,” said Lauck.

While he is sad to be leaving Lauck has many great memories and is confident Vlamis will be very successful in her position as president.

“Almost all of my close friends have worked alongside me in Student Council. As far as next year goes I am really sad that I’m going to miss it,” said Lauck. “I know that Mary Vlamis will be an awesome President and will probably go down in Student Council history as one of, if not the greatest Presidents of all time.”

Senior, Anna Boris who served as Treasurer has enjoyed her job very much.

“Being treasurer really opens your eyes to how money is dealt with and how much certain items cost. I feel as though it has helped prepare me for managing my finances when I go to college. I enjoyed being treasurer because it allows me to be involved in almost all of events run by WRSC.” said Boris.“I will miss the relationships that I have built with other members. We have a great time working at the events together, and it’s a bit sad to think that next year I won’t be around for that.”

Next year there will be a whole new Executive Board with three rookies. All three are very excited to be a part of the Executive Board.

Olivia Rua who will take the position of Communications Secretary said, “It’s an honor; I’m ready for the commitment and excited to take on the job as an Executive Secretary on behalf of the student body.”

Noelle Guerrera who was running opposed will take the position of Recording Secretary. “I felt like the pressure was on because I was going for the only position running opposed and so I knew that I would have to be more creative in my campaigning and work for it,” said Guerrera. “I am very excited about being recording secretary next year and the position will give me more responsibility and allowance to share my ideas.”

Taylor Amore who will be Treasury Secretary said, “I am excited but nervous that I might not be ready when next year comes along.”

Despite the nerves of the new members Vlamis is confident in her abilities and is ready to take on the position of President.

“I’m feeling very excited to be Student Body President. With all of the leadership experience I have had, I’m pumped to tackle the position and have a great year,” said Vlamis.

Chris Tomlin, Student Council Advisor, encourages all students to vote as he believes it is an important right.

“I always like to see students participating in the election process; this is one of those learning moments where you get to use one of your most important rights…the vote.” Tomlin says.

Overall Student Council did a great job this year, even winning National Recognition for the program.

“Obviously I am very excited about our receiving national recognition this year for the program that we run, it shows that what we do is something special. But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t see areas where there is still room to improve,” said Tomlin. “[Next year] I expect us to keep running the high caliber program that we are. It will be a different council next year, it is always is. That is the exciting part of being involved with a high school organization like this, each year students graduate and new students must step up to fill important leadership roles.”
