Unified Sports Shoot Some Hoops

The Unified Sports team was anxiously awaiting their first basketball game on Friday, January 17. The players were eager to face Wilby’s Unified Sports team. Their game took place following the Woodland girls’ basketball game. Many Woodland fans came to watch the exciting basketball game as the Hawks worked together to score twelve points.

Senior, Michael Peck, was the first to score for Woodland. Richard Petersen, another senior at Woodland, was also eager to score for his team. So eager that he was able to score four points. Michael Englund, Joshua Drown, and Timothy Myers also scored for Woodland.

The Unified Sports team has been practicing once or twice a week since the beginning of November. Typically they have one game a week against another Unified Sports team, as well as two basketball tournaments a year.

Woodland’s Psychiatrist, George Meyers, runs Unified Sports. He loves his job and is always happy to welcome new members.

“The greatest part of this program is seeing the excitement coming from the kids,” said Meyers. “Winning is not our top priority–our goal is for people to have fun.”
