Woodland Worldwide’s Cabaret Night

A captivating lineup of students and faculty will show off their talents on Saturday, February 1st in Woodland’s auditorium.

Woodland Wordwide’s Cabaret Night will occur at 7 o’clock. Anyone is welcome to attend and it is not necessary to pay. There is however, a recommended donation of five dollars for children and ten dollars for adults. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and money for the Malala Fund. The Malala Fund is an organization that works to provide a better education for girls.

Auditions for this event were held on January 14. Susan Cinoman, fine arts teacher, and Lisa Olivere, co-founder of Woodland Worldwide, were in charge. About fifteen to twenty students auditioned. There was also a few students and faculty who Olivere and Meghan Hatch, co-founder of the organization, had previously spoke to. Nicole Cina and Kayla Rafferty will perform with a few members from Woodland Worldwide along with Hatch, Olivere, and several other faculty members.

“We have a really nice lineup,” said Hatch.

Cabaret Night will be an hour long with an intermission and all the money ultimately benefits the Malala Fund and Woodland Worldwide.

This organization was created after the Taliban stormed the bus that Malala Yousafzai was riding on and shot her in the head, trying to prevent her from continuing her campaign that gave girls the rights to go to school.

“Education empowers girls to raise their voices, to unlock their potential, and to demand change,” according to malalafund.org.

Girl’s rights are something Woodland Worldwide believes very strongly in therefore, the theme of the Cabaret Night is “We are Malala.”

There will be many different types of performances such as poetry, singing, dance, musical instruments, and dramatic readings. A few of the performances tie into their theme. Cinoman has recruited several “drama mamas” to work in designing a set that will represent Pakistan and the Middle East.

Other performances present themes such as empowerment, strength, dependence, and self confidence. These themes represent the ideas Woodland worldwide stands for.

“We hope to have as many people as possible,” said Hatch.
