Freezing Temperatures Hit Woodland

With the record-breaking artic lows spreading across the northeast, problems are popping up everywhere, even at Woodland Regional High School.  The sub-zero freezing temperatures are the suspected cause of a burst pipe which flooded the floor near the girls swim locker room Saturday afternoon.

With the Naugatuck Swim Team in the pool and the Beacon Fall basketball program in the gym and the fire alarm sounded, local volunteer firefighters responded immediately and shut off the main water line to the broken pipe.

“One of the pipes for the sink in the [custodian’s closet] froze up and broke,” said Firefighter Michael Hildreth, Jr, a first responder to the scene.

Hildreth and other Beacon Falls volunteer firefighters pitched in and helped the custodial staff clear the hallway of water and debris.

All activities are currently still scheduled and the school remains open.
