People often say that junior year is the hardest. It’s usually when you can start to take harder classes. It’s the time of SAT’s and ACT’s; tis the season to plan out the rest of your life.

Junior, Ayah Galal, did not let any of this hold her back when she decided to run for President of Student Body in the spring of 2012.

“The reason why I decided to run for Student Body President as a junior goes all the way back to the reason why I joined the Woodland Regional Student Council (WRSC) in the first place,” said Galal. “I have a sincere and natural desire to help others in my community.”

Galal knew it would be harder to be president as a junior but she was up for the challenge.

Normally in the WRSC’s past a senior runs for the position of student body president. But Galal felt that she was ready.

“Through being a senator in ninth grade and serving on the executive branch as a Junior Board of Education representative my sophomore year, I felt that I was prepared to run for and take on the task of being Student Body President,” said Galal.

While Galal admits that being a senior and president of the student body may be easier, she feels that her experience has taught her a lot and made it possible for to take on this role as a junior.

“I personally love service events and engaging myself in ways that can help benefit my school, local community, and even the world as a whole,” Galal admits. “As president, I enjoy using my power to help others; whether it be writing legislation or running an event.”

Looking back on the year so far Galal is happy with what her administration has accomplished.

Galal mentions how the WRSC continued the traditions of freshmen orientation, and Clubbin’ at Woodland early on this year.

They also successfully held spirit week and homecoming with the new addition of a pajama pant dress up day.

In November they held Mock Elections and in December they had a book drive collecting over 900 hundred books.

Before the end of the year Galal hopes to complete Blankets for Babies, the annual ice cream social and much more.

Galal also mentions that the WRSC donated the most money in WRSC history to charitable events including $800 to Hurricane Sandy Victims.

While Galal is not the first junior president, Vinay Dinesh and Danielle D’Angelo were also junior presidents in the past, she without a doubt is not letting that stop her from completing her goals.

Galal admits that she is planning to run for student body president again in the spring of 2013 for her senior year as well.

“I want to continue to be able to help create and run events and assist the Woodland community to the best of my ability,” said Galal. “This position has made me realize that WRHS’s student body is capable of achieving anything they put their minds to and can help bring positive change.”
