Fine Arts Friday:: Featuring Becca Grabowski

Students at Woodland Regional High School are always striving to be the best that they can be. They look for challenges and they look to be involved in every program that they possibly can. And there are some students that go above and beyond.

Senior Becca Grabowski fell in love with the arts her freshmen year at Woodland Regional High School. But there was one subject she truly had a passion for.

Growing up, Grabowski had always been a singer. And when given the opportunity to take a choir class at Woodland, Grabowski immediately became involved. Now as a senior, Grabowski has been involved with the class for all four years.

“Choir class allows me to go to school and do what I love instead of starting the day off stressed,” said Grabowski. “It offers a safe environment with friends who love singing as well.”

Since Grabowski has been singing for so long, her voice has continued to strengthen, making her one of the best and most talented singers in the choir program. Without taking a single lesson, Grabowski’s voice comes naturally. This lack of lessons never slows her down, and she continues to practice because it is one thing she will always enjoy.

“As a singer I love to belt and I love singing my heart and giving my all until my lungs hurt,” stated Grabowski.

Whether she is performing in the choir or singing the National Anthem before games, she faces similar obstacles. As many singers know, the nerves that come along with singing can be stressful, but she has learned to overcome them through experience.

“I just breathe deeply, close my eyes, and imagine myself alone onstage, the one place I always feel comfortable,” said Grabowski.

Learning to adjust to new experiences was something Grabowski did last spring when she decided to take part in Woodland’s theater production of Once on this Island. Cast as Mama Euralie, she learned the in’s and out’s of a stage production. In addition, she acquired a new passion for the performing arts. Due to constant rehearsals, the cast becomes a family– and becoming a family was one of her favorite experiences.

Not only does Grabowski appreciate the students involved in the arts at Woodland, she added that the bonds she has formed with the teachers are like no other.

“The fine arts teachers at Woodland are always there when I need them and are all amazing artists in their own ways,” said Grabowski. ” I’ve known most of them for almost four years now and I’m proud to say I was their student.”

Through the fine arts programs at Woodland, Grabowski has been able to find herself. She’s explored all the different types of the arts, and learned many new things. She encourages students to go and do the same that she did. With an incredible voice and a talent for performance to match, Grabowski will look to pursue singing in college.

But as for now, she is looking forward to performing in Woodland’s next musical, the Little Shop of Horrors, and continuing to fulfill her passion in the arts.
