Woodland’s Fine Arts Night

The sun was shining bright for Woodland’s talented musicians and singers on June 2, 2011 at Woodland’s Fine Arts Festival.
In past years, the band and choir were forced to play inside due to some unfavorable weather. But despite some strong breezes, the groups were able to stay outside and play their absolute best for the audience.
The show began at 6: 30 with Woodland’s own “Ludicrosity.” This group performed three pieces with solos from several students including senior Julia Daubney, sophomore Charles Eurhentraut, junior Sam Shwind, sophomore Matthew Murphy, and the infamous Donald Ferreti.
“He was the star of the night,” said sophomore Rex Sturdevant.
With a quick set change, the next group, concert band, was ready to play their three pieces. Conducted by Mr. Stephen St. George, the music flowed perfectly from note to note. But, for the last song the group performed something had changed.
For her senior project, Goodwin chose to pick and conduct two pieces to the concert band. “Alice in Wonderland” was one of the two pieces and one of the band’s favorites.
Senior Patrick Skehan was another senior who decided to complete a senior project with the arts. Skehan started a group at Woodland called percussion ensemble. Conducting the music, his group of percussionists performed the song.
“I loved the drums that played at the very end. It was my favorite,” said viewer Carla Perugini.
It was a special night for some students in the band. For the seniors, it would be the last show they would ever perform at Woodland. Each senior was honored and was given lots of hope and love for the future.
The night was getting colder, but the warm voices of the choir were ready to perform.
The show choir and chamber choir performed three beautiful pieces together including the very popular song “I’ll be there.” The music was conducted by Mr. Stephen St. Lewis and Ji Ye Park, sophomore, played every song perfectly on the piano.
“I’ve never seen someone play the piano with such elegance and talent. She takes playing the piano in high school to a whole other level,” said sophomore Makenzie White.
June 2nd wasn’t the last time they choirs would perform together with their seniors; they would be performing their final show June 3, 2011 only a single day after.
People packed up their lawn chairs, but there were more things for the audience to see before the night was over.
Inside the lobby, paintings, photos, and posters covered the glass windows. All of these works of art were created by Woodland’s painting classes, graphic design classes, and photo classes.
The Fine Arts show proved that Woodland was full of the arts. Parents and friends were impressed by the hard work.
