Snow Days Becoming A Hassle

It has seemed that since Winter Break, Region 16 has not been to school for a full week due to the horrid conditions that this winter brought with it. This is true as there has not been one full week of school since the break.

With the dangerous conditions, Region 16 has found that many days have been canceled, let out early, or delayed.

The region is allowed nine snow days before taking off days from April vacation. But the school has a new proposition, of taking days off of February Break. Superintendent James Agostine stated, “I have not made a decision yet and I will not for a couple more days” regarding whether it is definite or not that February break will be changed.

As of February 6th, there has been eight snow days to count. These snow days are affecting the regular flow of school days. It affected the order in which midterms were to be taken place.
The students at Woodland had two weeks to prepare for midterms when returning from break before beginning them on the 18th, or so they thought.

Exams actually began on Thursday, the 20th and yet again were held off until the 24th due to a snow day that Friday.
This has made it difficult to get back on track and get flowing with the new semester.

It also affects sophomores who are preparing for the CAPT testing. With the days cut off of February Break, it is still not definite that Region 16 will take a full April Break.

“Even if we went into the Feb break that would not guarantee that April is completely safe. It would depend on how many more snow days we had,” stated Agostine.

As of right now, Region 16 is being let out of school on June 23rd which gives five school days before June 30th.
June 30th is the latest day that school is allowed to be in session.

If all goes well with the weather conditions for the remainder of the winter, students will be able to enjoy April break and get out of school on a reasonable date.
