Pumpkin Patch

On the main stretch of grass on St. Anthony’s Parish ground are pumpkins for sale for families in the town of Prospect, CT.
Lisa Stanley, one of the head chairpersons of this event, and her volunteers have sold over two-thirds of their pumpkins in the first three days. The time it took to plan the event helped Stanley and her partners exceed their expectations.
The pumpkin festival took great time to plan. Stanley started organizing this event when she was approached by Mark S. Suslenko, Reverend of St. Anthony’s Parish, in May.
The Native American tribe called the Navahos harvested the pumpkins and had them delivered to other patches around the United States.
Stanley and the committee called a company that will support and deliver these pumpkins to their event. The company has delivered pumpkins to their event. The company has delivered pumpkins to forty-seven states that support non-profitable organizations. “It was a win all the way around,” said Stanley.
One hundred volunteers showed up to deliver the pumpkins and set up on October 8th 2010.
The first day of the sale was October 9th 2010. Stanley reported that she has 150 volunteers in total for this event that helped out.
On weekdays, the festival sells pumpkins, popcorn, cotton candy, and other baked goods. The people who attend this event buy tickets to ride hayrides, and play in bounce houses and obstacle courses.
People who are less fortunate need know that their community has their backs in difficult times.
The donations and profits of this festival are going to the parish and where they will be distributed to those in need of such donations.
St. Anthony’s Parish wants to establish good relationships with the community members of the town.
Stanley said, “Even if we don’t make a dime on a pumpkin, it’s great that we’ve supported people in need.”
