Big Man For A Big Job

Ian Bures has been around the Woodland Football program for a long time.

As a three year starter he has gotten a lot of playing time at the varsity level.

Bures started off playing for pop warner back in 2001.  He played center most of his Pop Warner career.
“It was fun while it lasted and gave me a lot of experience for when I came to high school,” said Bures.

When Bures came to Woodland, he was eager to play. As a freshman,  Ian started as a center on the freshman football team and a guard on the junior varisty team.

Being used to playing center because he played it in pop warner, Bures excelled at controlling the offense which earned him a starting spot on the JV squad

“Starting JV as a freshman was an honor,” said Bures.

Even though he was playing a totally different position, he still did his best and made sure the offensive line did the same.

The following year, his sophomore year, Bures started varsity. He started at defensive end, and was second string tight end. Bures’ size made him a useful player on the field. He was able to play many different positions due to his size and speed.

“I love playing tight end; I love the rush I get when I catch the ball and possibly run for a touchdown,” explained Bures.

Starting varsity as a sophomore was a big deal for Bures. He had no experience at the varsity level when Head Coach Tim Shea decided he was going to play defensive end.

Although it was a new task for him, Bures was up for the challenge. “I was extremely nervous my first varsity game and I didn’t want to leave a bad impression on the coaches,” explained Bures.

After Bures’ sophomore year he had plenty of experience on the varsity level. His junior year he started both Defensive end and Tight end.

“ I was less nervous my junior year because I had more confidence and a better feel for what I was doing on the field,”said Bures.

During his Junior year Bures compiled 24 tackles and 3 sacks.

Bures senior year is just starting to take off. He’s already a two year veteran on the field.

So far in only two games Bures has already had 71 receiving yards, almost reaching last years total of 90. Bures already has four tackles, also.

“I hope the team is very successful and that we win the copper division,” says Bures
