Cross Country Dominates in First NVL Meet

Both the boys and girls cross country teams started off the season with a 4-0 start in their first NVL meet.

The team made their way to Holy Cross High School Tuesday, September 21st where they took on the Crusaders, St. Paul Falcons, Wilby Wildcats, and the Crosby

The girls set the tone in the first meet with Junior Melissa Kiley coming in 2nd place overall, Senior Crystal Steinfeld with 3rd, Junior Kristina Diurno with 6th, Junior Rachel Lonchar with 7th, and Sophomore Miranda Moffat with 8th place.

With those places, the girls won to Holy Cross with a score of 23-32, St. Paul- 18-37, and Wilby and Crosby with a score of 15-45 both.

The boys then took on the course with Senior Ryan Mariotti in 2nd, Senior Kyle Cranney with 3rd, Sophomore Joe Reynolds came in 7th, Sophomore Ian Chamenko with 10th, and Senior Jon Fitzpatrick with 14th place.

They beat Holy Cross with a score of 26-29, Crosby- 18-41, Wilby- 22-33, and St. Paul 15-50.

 Melissa Kiley thinks that overall the team did a great job. “We went in knowing what we needed to do to get the win, and we all worked hard to achieve that,” said Kiley.

With this meet behind them, the team will go to Naugatuck on Tuesday, September 28th and take on Naugatuck, Torrington, Sacred Heart, and Wilby.
