NVL Boy’s Tennis Tournament

Tensions were running high at Woodland Regional as the NVL Tournament played opened up. For the Boy’s Tennis NVLs, only four singles players and four doubles teams came out of the opening, quarters, and semi’s alive.

In the doubles bracket, Wolcott boasted two teams. Numbers one and three, Nick Carangelo and Greg Parenteau, and #2 Eric Dollinger and #4 Nick Pietroniro.

Carangelo and Parenteau faced a tough challenge against Woodland’s #1 Mike Krakowski and #2 Pat Bradley. In a great effort, Krakowski and Bradley fell to the impressive Wolcott team. Also, Dollinger and Pietroniro defeated the #1 doubles team from Torrington, Steve Consolini and Phil Welford.

As the two NVL Champion Winners (Brass and Copper) Wolcott squared off, friendship played a big part in such an important match.Though in the end, Carangelo and Parenteau defeated their teammates by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

On the other hand in the singles bracket, Sacred Heart’s #1 Peter DeGennaro had the almost impossible task of playing against favorite, Joe Gianelli of Holy Cross. Crosby’s #1 senior Paul Fung-Fook had to challenge the powerful serving #2 from Kennedy, Enea Dervishi. Although both DeGennaro and Dervishi put up valuable effort, they both fell to the #1 and #2 in the tournament.

The last match of the day between Gianelli and Fung-Fook ended with the victory going to heavily favored Joe Gianelli by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Even though the win seemed an easy one, Gianelli has always thought that Fung-Fook was his toughest competition because of his fantastic serve. Final winners: Nick Carangelo and Greg Parenteau of Wolcott in doubles, and Joe Gianelli from Holy Cross in singles.
