2016: A Year in Fashion

The year of 2016 was not lacking when it came to chokers and bodysuits, all due to an unforeseen 90’s comeback. As this year comes to a close, and new styles begin to emerge, we must remember the trends this year will never forget.

One particular trend with huge hype this year was tour merch. Yes, those shirts you wait about an hour in line for and paid about $85 for at your favorite artist’s concert. Let’s be real, it’s totally worth it. The two biggest artists with popular tour merch were Justin Bieber (of course) with his Purpose Tour line called “Fear of God” and Kanye West with his Pablo line. Kanye was the big talk of 2016 for sure with his “Yeezys” and his “I feel like Pablo” shirts. This trend is very controversial, however. Some people LOVE it and rock it everyday like the Kardashians, but some people also hate it.

You probably haven’t met anyone that doesn’t love this next trend–velvet. Velvet made a huge comeback this year with everything from velvet jackets to dresses and even booties being sold worldwide. Almost every celebrity is wearing this style such as models Kendall Jenner and Taylor Hill, actress Blake Lively, and major style icon Kourtney Kardashian.

This next trend was everywhere, but it’s not so much an item but a brand. This brand is called “Vetements”, sound familiar? Probably not. This brand released anything from hoodies to denim. Though you may not recognize the brand name, many celebrities were spotted wearing pieces from Vetements collection, like Rihanna and Selena Gomez.

According to elle.com,Chokers are not the only necklaces in existence, but Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters would have you believe otherwise.” The choker trend was the BIGGEST of this year. Chokers came out in various styles like thin velvet or thick satin ones in almost every color. Many layered chokers with other dainty necklaces or wearing chokers that tie in the front.

You may not like this next trend, but you can’t deny that it happened. Crocs…yes crocs. Although no celebrities have worn crocs this year, Woodland has gotten on board with this trend. Whether it’s the girls swim team or just casual Woodland students, it was a trend spotted virtually anywhere in the hallways.

This last trend ruled a lot of 2016 and that’s anything off the shoulder. This trend began during the spring with dresses and tops. The cold weather did not stop people from wearing this trend, and many transitioned this piece to their fall and even winter looks.

2016 was filled with many do’s and don’ts for fashion, but I’m ready to see what 2017 will bring.
