Pink October Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness

Throughout the month of October, sports and other organizations in Woodland have been working to raising money for cancer awareness. From the beginning of the October, multiple teams have ran pink games or meets to promote awareness. These games and meets featured pink decorations and teams wore pink jerseys or suits.

On top of athletic support, Student Government has raised money throughout the month. Representatives are collecting money at sporting events for Are You Dense, a non-profit organization, which educates the public about screening of dense breast tissue and how mammograms can miss cancer. Are You Dense also tries to educate those diagnosed with breast cancer and advocate for changes in public policy relating to breast cancer.

Student Government hopes to collect as much as possible for this Pink October event. Pink October is a long-standing annual event at Woodland. The month-long event is one of Student Government’s most successful service events.

“In addition to the money raised from the Tie Dye t-shirt sales, I have no doubt we will be donating over $1,000,” believes Noelle Guerrera, Student Government president.

Continuing this tradition is very important to the Student Government as they work through the end of the month to make is as successful as possible. Look for representatives at home games or go to areyoudense.org to donate.
