J.K. Rowling Reinvents Adventure in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

(Warning: May Contain Spoilers for Those who Have Not Read the Book)

After the release of J.K. Rowling’s seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, in July of 2007, I accepted the fate that it was the last time I would read about the adventures of the Wizarding World. Little did I know, however, that on July 31, 2016, the story would be reopened once again.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set nineteen years after the end of the final book and follows Harry, Ron, and Hermoine on their whimsical adventures once again. This time, though, they are accompanied by their spouses and children. Throughout the story, heroic Harry Potter struggles to maintain a relationship with his son Albus Severus Potter while also dealing with his prestigious job at the Ministry of Magic.

The story is written as a play by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne which meant it did, at times, lack the description her other novels contained. However, it was wonderfully nostalgic to be able to read this continued story line. Rowling also did a wonderful job reinventing the adventure and leaving the readers with a happy ending at the same time. I was thoroughly impressed with how Rowling connected both new and old characters.

Though this is the last and final book of the Harry Potter saga (maybe), readers will also get a chance to see into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter once again with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on November 18th.
