Many students at Woodland Regional High School know that scholarships are your best friend when it comes to payment for college. Common scholarships are well-known, such as the scholarship you receive for earning the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. But, there are thousands of scholarships that many people don’t know about, and therefore are ripe for the picking.

The first scholarship is Jif’s “Most Creative Sandwich.” Only seniors in high school are eligible, and the Jif company is willing to give out a $25,000 scholarship for whomever can produce the most creative sandwich. The idea behind it is that the college students will have to be creative with their limited supply of food in their dorms or houses, so they want them to be able to enjoy whatever they can come up with. Along with the scholarship, the winning student will also receive a assorted peanut butter basket worth $50.

For those Edgar Allen Poe’s in the making, there’s a scholarship for you too. At PowerPoetry.org, they have the “Slam What You Will” contest, offering $1,000 to every winner. The only requirements are that you join the poetry community and produce your finest poem to submit into the contest.

Probably the most lost in the horde would be the Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship. The Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship gives students the opportunity to be creative with the latest trend: zombies. The application asks students to plan ahead for an apocalypse and to be creative with their survival skills. If you are able to produce the most effective plan, the group will grant you $5,000 for your survival.

Though this only names a few, there are many other scholarships out there like these ones that can help to shave off some of that scary-looking tuition fee.
