Quiz Bowl Qualifies for Nationals

After participating successfully in two tournaments during this school year, the Quiz Bowl team at Woodland Regional High School qualified for nationals.

Currently, there are seven members of the Quiz Bowl Team and these members work with advisor Nancy Manning to adequately prepare for each of the tournaments.

To prepare, members are given practice packets where they are able to work through sample questions together. Questions cover the areas of American and World History, Literature, Science, Math, Current Events, Pop Culture, and Geography.

Manning recognizes the importance of preparation for these tournaments and devotes much of their success to extensive practice.

“To qualify and do well for those tournaments, we had to do a lot of practicing,” said Manning.

Through their hard work, the team was able to bond throughout the year which helped them work together more efficiently.

“We know who we can count on for certain topics and how to communicate with each other,” said Kaylee Walsh, sophomore and Quiz Bowl member.

Because of their scores in the tournaments, they were able to qualify for nationals which are set to take place in Dallas, Texas on Memorial Day weekend.

Unfortunately, four students are needed to form a team and none of the members are able to attend. Manning is hopeful, however, that the team will qualify again next year and is very proud of the student’s accomplishments throughout the year due to their hard work and practice.

Manning said, “I’m always trying to get students to do their best and we did a lot of training and a lot of practice work so I think they were really proud of themselves for having worked so hard all year.”
