Sonic Bell Becomes Issue at Woodland

Woodland Regional High School has a major issue: the familiar bell that signals the change in classes can now be replicated through an app.  Teachers are being fooled into letting their students out several minutes early due to the tone in the dog whistle app that perfectly replicate the bell.

The dog whistle app was found from students at Woodland who wanted to get out of class earlier. The first time the dog whistle was used in class at the end of the day to get out early.  Isabel Golia student at Woodland shares her thoughts on being affected by the tone. Golia’s concern about this new app is its ability to replicate the actual “bell” sound so well that the teachers and staff have a difficult time differentiating between the actual and the artificial tone.

“The students are using this bell to get out of class early and to see if the teacher actually falls for the fake bell noise,” said Golia.

This app has created such a problem that some teachers have now asked students to leave the cell phones in their lockers. Michael Magas, finance teacher at Woodland, notes that the app is troublemaking.

“Students are using this bell to disrupt the learning process and get a laugh out of their classmates,” said Magas.

Magas pointed out that students have used the sonic bell in his class.

However, he wasn’t fooled.

“I did not fall for the Sonic bell at any point,” said Magas “My hearing is too kneen. I know the difference between the real bell and the Sonic bell.”

Teachers at Woodland are picking up on the artificial tone, decreasing the use of the app among students.
