Boys Basketball Prepares for a Successful Season

The start to a new season of Woodland Boys Basketball is upon us. With three returning varsity starters and after weeks of practices on the court, the boys are ready to take on the season.

Senior Captain Tyler Collodel is excited to play his last year on the court.

“I feel really confident and excited for this season and that’s beside the fact that it’s my senior year,” said Collodel.

Aside from three returning varsity starters, there are underclassmen who are looking forward to being an asset to the team.

“Zack Graveline, Jack Laperriere, and Zack Bedryczuk are a good addition to the team. They give our team depth and push each other in practice, which is good,” said Collodel.

Jack Laperriere and Zach Graveline are both looking forward to playing with and learning from their upperclassmen teammates.

“Being an underclassmen is difficult but exciting knowing you’re going to be playing at the varsity level for 3 more years.” Jack Laperriere said.

Sophomore Zack Graveline said, “Being an underclassmen on varsity is fun but challenging at the same time knowing you are playing with juniors and seniors with more experience than you but we just play our hardest and always play for the name on our chest.”

This year you can expect a new style of play on the court which may be different than previous years. This new style could create some close games this season. Tempo is a technique that will be used regularly throughout the season. They are working hard to be the most conditioned team and focus on the defense so they can push the ball up the floor to score easy buckets on breakaway.

The main challenge this season is experience. With the only three returning varsity starters there is a lot of teaching that goes into practice to make sure everything is set and covered.

“I would strongly say that we are not worried about any teams this season. Each game is different and how we approach and prepare for it will not make us back down from teams this year,” said Collodel. “I feel like with the players we have, we are all physical so we are always going to be in attack mode.”

From constant conditioning, to the addition of new players and a new style of play, the team seems to have a steadfast mindset to get ready to start the season. Catch the boys on the court tonight against Oxford at 7 here at Woodland.
