Woodland Gives Thanks to the Troops

American soldiers fight for our freedom each year so we can partake in everyday activities like going to school and walking to the bus stop. This year, Woodland said “thank you.”

Items were collected for care packages by the student body and were donated on November 25th as part of Woodland’s Service Project.

Students reported to their advisory and each grade was called to a different hallway to play a role in creating the care packages. Seniors reported to the sophomore hallway, juniors reported to the freshman hallway, sophomores to the front of the school store, and freshman to the cafe. students brought necessities for the troops like food, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper etc.

All grades connected in a line, passing the items for the care packages. When the students finished making their packages, they entered the gym to get ready for the “mini” pep rally. The “mini” pep rally was be ten minutes long, where the be football team was recognized and pumped up for their Thanksgiving game against Seymour. Student Council President Mary Vlamis also gave a speech explaining the purpose of the Service Day and the impact of an activity such as this.

This Service Day allowed Woodland students to give back and to share their thanks and appreciation for the troops during this holiday season.
