Woodland Shows Support for Epilepsy

On Friday, November 13th,  students of Woodland Regional High School could be seen wearing purple clothing to spread awareness for National Epilepsy Awareness day.

Epilepsy is a seizure disorder that is often triggered by stress, lack of sleep, low blood sugar, and most commonly recognized, flashing lights or patterns. It puts its victims into a harmful state where their bodies violently jerk and twitch. During a seizure, nerve cells leave their normal activities and fire in synchronized bursts causing the body to spasm.

Several students at Woodland suffer from epilepsy as well. Yerrington, a freshman at Woodland, had his first seizure at the age of six. His family had never suspected it, but according to Yerrington, it can happen to anybody. To help support epilepsy, every year, Yerrington and his family go to Washington for an epilepsy drive and help raise money to try and find a cure. Friends of Yerrington such as Emily Sosnovitch,  a freshman who witnessed Yerrington having a seizure in elementary school, believes that to help support victims of epilepsy we can start funds and donate to charities. One can donate to The Epilepsy Foundation to help.

Having family with epilepsy can cause them to lead a scary and worry-filled life which is why Woodland came together to help support those affected by this condition.
