Woodland Cross Country Dominates at NVLs

With heavy breaths and sweaty foreheads, the members of the Woodland Cross- Country Team cross the finish line during NVLs.

The team’s hard work and effort carried them to victory. Both the girls and boys teams finished with great success.

The boys finished 15-1, making this the best boys record to date. The team placed second in the NVL.

Brian Sardinskas, senior captain, explains how both the girls and boys teams worked hard throughout the season to achieve their goals.

“Between practicing in the hot weather at the end of August and the freezing weather towards the end of October, it wasn’t easy, but it was definitely well worth it,” said Sardinskas.

Several key players stood out especially. Sardinskas went all NVL and Kyle Crowell, Matt Luxeder, and Paul Jones went All Division.

The girls team finished 13-2, placing them third in the NVL. Kelsey Mitchell went all NVL and Clara Drozdowski and Kailyn Accetura both went All Division.

Mitchell is very proud of her team and their well-deserved success.

“We worked hard all season and always tried our best so I am happy with the outcome,” said Mitchell.

Jeff Lownds, Woodland Cross Country coach, explains that he always encourages his team to put their all into each practice.

“My advice seldom varies,” said Lownds. “Work hard, be aggressive, be focused and support each other.”
