Walk to Cure Arthritis

Imagine constant pain, brought on by simple actions, the movements that you rely on every day. Joints swell and become stiff and sore, and begin feeling as if they are burning. This is the everyday life for people living with arthritis.

According to arthritis.org, about 40 million Americans have arthritis; however, not all hope is lost. The Arthritis Foundation helps arthritis patients by giving information about the disease, and providing programs to help reduce pain and strengthen the joints and muscles. They also provide products that are proven to help make life easier for people with arthritis.

Tori Skehan, Woodland senior, is doing what she can by fundraising a ‘Walk to Cure Arthritis’ in order to help out the Arthritis Foundation and benefit people who have to go through their lives every day with the struggle of having this disease. “I’ve participated in this event two times before this; one of my friends has arthritis, so it’s important to me.” says Tori.

Although arthritis causes much pain and suffering, it’s very important to stay active if you have it. When someone with arthritis moves, their bones feel as if they are grating together. If you do not move regularly though, your joints will become stiff from sitting still, and may lock up or freeze, making it even more difficult to function.

You can help by joining the Woodland Hawks team for the walk (the link to join is on posters hung up around the school), ordering a t-shirt to wear to the walk (forms will be handed out during advisory and are due April 13th), or contacting Tori to donate for the cause.

Lend a helping hand to those in need and to show your support by walking with the team on May 3rd. You can bring a dog to the walk if you are 18 years or older. If you have any questions, see Tori Skehan for details.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by; join the team and walk for a cause.
