Senior Project Spotlight: McVeigh’s Mission for Dress”

With prom season approaching, it is time to go dress shopping. You go find a dress, and fall in love with it. You then check the price tag and your heart sinks with disappointment. What do you do? The dance is coming up and you have nothing to wear, the answer is simple. Borrow a friend’s dress.

Borrowing a dress from someone is completely normal, so why not get your prom dress for free? Marie Mcveigh, a senior at Woodland, is holding a dress drive for her senior project.

All kinds of dresses are currently being collected until March 27th. On March 26th and March 27th she will be staying after school and giving the collected dresses to anyone who wants a something new for no cost.

Even the dresses that are not first pick will be given to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization.

Many senior projects are charity events. This, however, is not. This project simply provides girls with a dress to make them feel beautiful in something new.

Mcveigh wants to give back in appreciation for the people that helped her in her own circumstances.

“I was in need of a dress and someone was there for me. I want to be there for someone else who is in need,” said Mcveigh.

Even though buying a new dress may seem necessary, a pre-owned dress does the same duties without paying an extreme price.

“Girls always feel the need to buy a brand new dress,” explains Mcveigh. “I want a girl to be able to feel beautiful in a dress that she loves, without her having to pay an arm and a leg for it.”
