Springing into Softball Season

As the winter comes to an end, the softball season begins. This year the softball team will be working extremely hard to make this season better than any other.

Following the loss of multiple seniors last year, Stephanie Kiley, the only senior, and multiple juniors will have to step up and lead the team. This year’s Captains are Stephanie Kiley who pitches and plays second base, and junior, Carla Piccolo.

Last year, the softball team had a very successful season. The team made it to the NVLS semi-finals and made it to the quarter-finals in states.  This year Coach Luddy is hoping to advance farther in the NVL and State tournaments.  Although, they may be up for a challenge since the team lost so many seniors that held starting positions.

The coaches will be looking to fill in every infield position. However Luddy is convinced they will be successful in their efforts.

“We have a solid core of juniors and sophomores with varsity experience,” said Luddy. “which should help us fill all the varsity spots.”

There are also a strong amount of returning sophomores that will play on the JV team to improve their skills. The coaches are looking for a lot of new freshmen to try out. Freshmen will play on the First year team, and some may even earn a spot on JV or Varsity.

“This year it is really going to be up to our underclassmen  to step it up and be team players and team leaders,” says Luddy. That will be the key to their success.
