Dodge, Dive, Dip, Duck and Dodge at Inaugural Valley Dodgeball Classic

BEACON FALLS — Test out the five D’s of dodgeball and help raise money for local organizations all at the same time! The Valley Dodgeball Classic, an all-day charity dodgeball tournament set for May 31 at Woodland Regional High School, is now accepting team registrations for its inaugural tournament.

Teams of at least six players are required to play in the tournament, which will begin at 10 a.m. and last through the afternoon. Registration is $20 per player and can be paid at the event check-in, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. The fee includes a free lunch by Wing It On! and a free event T-shirt. Registration can be completed online at www.TheSusieFoundation.org with a deadline of May 16.

Event organizers hope to attract up to two dozen teams from the area, including local schools and fire departments. All teams will be guaranteed at least three games before an elimination tournament. The winning team will receive the Chief Roger Brennan Memorial Trophy, named after the recently departed past chief of Beacon Hose Co. No. 1, as well as individual golden wrenches to each player.

“We’re hoping to kill a whole lot of birds with a whole lot of dodgeballs,” event co-organizer Kyle Brennan said. “Not only are we going to raise money for three great groups, but we’re going to have a blast doing it. You won’t find any place more competitive than the Valley, so dodgeball is perfect here.”

Also available at the event will be raffles, games, advance ticket sales for the annual Beacon Hose Firemen’s Carnival (June 5-7) and advance registration for the second annual Susie’s Kickball Classic.

All tournament proceeds will benefit three local organizations: Beacon Hose Co. No. 1, The Susie Foundation and the WRHS Alumni Association. Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 is celebrating its 115th anniversary as Beacon Falls’ volunteer fire department and EMS provider. The Susie Foundation, founded in memory of lifelong Valley resident Susan Matthews, seeks to combat ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) by supporting patients and caregivers. The WRHS Alumni Association helps keep a young alumni base connected and is working toward giving back to the Woodland community.

Questions can be directed to organizers Kyle Brennan (203-490-8929 or kylebrennan1@yahoo.com) or Ryan Matthews (203-217-4884 or thesusiefoundation@gmail.com). Individuals, businesses and organizations wishing to donate toward the event can also contact Kyle or Ryan.
