Upcoming Spring Sports

With the weather stuck at an extreme low, it is hard to imagine spring sports are right around the corner.

Tryouts are scheduled for Monday, March 24 for all spring sports at Woodland Regional High School: baseball, softball, golf, track and tennis.

New and returning players are not the only people gearing up for the approaching season. Coaches have set their goals and expectations high hoping for success.

Track Head Coach, Tim Shea, hopes to duplicate the teams win as NVL League Champions last year.

With the talent of previous athletes along with some fresh faces, Shea anticipates to “qualify someone for every event in the state meet.”

Bill Carangelo, Woodland Golf Coach, expects his team to be more competitive and to increase the level of dedication.

“We have a lot of dedicated players returning as well as some very promising new players,” said Carangelo.

He also wants his team to play well at the Woodland Invitational and win an NVL title.

Softball Coaches Loren Luddy and Krystle Levinsky, along with Girls Tennis Coach Jess Degennaro, are also preparing for an exciting and productive season. Softball players have been attending conditioning sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays after school and the Tennis team  is lifting to get in shape. Boys’ Tennis Coach, Michael Magas, is new this year and will take the place of former coach Jim Amato.

Baseball Coach, Mike Kingsley also has many goals for the upcoming season. The team will work towards qualifying for the NVL tournament and compete for a league championship. If the team succeeds in doing so, they will also have qualified for the League Championship.

“This year we will be replacing a very good senior class from a year ago which will allow for great competition within the team to fill those starting spots from last season,” said Kingsley.

He believes the underclassmen from last year are ready for the challenge. Kingsley looks forward to watching the team improve throughout the season.

New and returning athletes will begin the season with excitement and determination to have a productive season and fulfill both their own and their coaches’ goals and expectations.
