Drama Club to Present “The Miracle Worker”

Each year the members of Woodland’s Drama Club work to present two plays throughout the year.

To kick off the 2013-2014 play year, the drama club will be presenting “The Miracle Worker.” The play focuses on the life of Helen Keller, who was the only blind and deaf person to ever earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Drama Club Director, Susan Cinoman, believes that presenting this play will be very inspiring. The audience will watch a young girl overcome great obstacles and find her path, which is something many audience members can relate to.

To create a successful play this year, Cinoman needed a cooperative cast. This therefore forced her to make difficult cuts during casting. To achieve the successful play she desires Cinoman looked for actors who possessed certain characteristics.

“They need to know about concentration, have great imaginations, and a sense of humor. They also need to know how to accurately analyze a script,” said Cinoman.

In order to make the play a bit more exciting the Drama Club has been trying to get real-life-animals to make an appearance on stage during a few of the scenes.

“Having animals on stage will be a show stopper,” stated Cinoman.

According to Cinoman the audience may have mixed emotions throughout the play. Audience members will feel a great deal of sadness as well as hope and by the end, relief.

All the actors have been working hard to present a great show this year. They have been practicing two hours after school everyday since October.

“It’s just like any other sport,” said Cinoman. “You have to practice and practice.”

If you’re interested in seeing the play, it will show case on December 6th and 7th at 7:00pm in the auditorium.
