Woodland Students Attend Natural Peer Helpers Conference

Every spring, Natural Peer Helpers clubs from all over the state of Connecticut are invited to attend a Peer Helpers’ Conference at Holiday Hill.

The event is hosted by the Family Intervention Center located in Waterbury Connecticut. The peer helpers attend workshops hosted by counselors.

Woodland’s Natural Peer Helper’s Club, Hawk Wing’s, attended the conference in hopes of learning ways to be better peer helpers.

“We need to be constantly learning about issues students are facing so we can assist them better,” said Hawk Wing’s advisor, Bethany Didato.

The Woodland Peer Helpers attended workshop’s where they engaged in team building activities with other schools and focused on helping teenagers make the right choices.

They also listened to speakers share their personal stories about facing troubles as young adults and how they overcame them.

“I really enjoyed the conference because I was able to review what it meant to be a peer helper,” said WRHS Peer Helper, Katie Porter, “ I was also able to get to know peer helpers from other schools, which I really enjoyed.”
